Following 30 beat reporters is impractical, but several aggregator accounts on social media compile the information into a single daily thread that covers the full slate.

FanGraphs offers game logs for every reliever that show appearances, innings pitched, pitch counts and days of rest between outings. The game-log view can be filtered by date range, making it easy to see a reliever’s workload over the last seven days. I check this for the specific relievers who matter — the closer, the primary setup man and the high-leverage lefty specialist — and flag any arm with three or more appearances in the last five days.

Baseball Savant provides pitch-level data for every reliever, including velocity trends. A reliever whose fastball velocity has dropped by a full mile per hour over his last three appearances is showing fatigue in the data, even if his game-log ERA looks fine. Velocity decline is a leading indicator of reduced effectiveness, and it takes about 60 seconds to check on Savant’s pitcher page.

The total time investment is roughly ten minutes per slate — five minutes on beat-reporter bullpen updates and five minutes on FanGraphs or Savant to verify workload for the arms that matter. For a variable that directly affects the final three innings of every game, that is an efficient trade. The bullpen does not get the attention the starting pitcher does, but for late-game prop outcomes, it is often the factor that tips the result from loss to win — or vice versa.

How many consecutive appearances signal meaningful bullpen fatigue for prop purposes?

Three appearances within a four-day window is the threshold where meaningful fatigue typically sets in. At that point, the reliever’s velocity tends to drop, his command decreases and the manager is less likely to deploy him in a high-leverage situation. Two appearances in three days is manageable for most arms; three in four days pushes the reliever into reduced-effectiveness territory that affects late-game prop outcomes.

Do team total overs become more valuable when the opposing bullpen is depleted?

Yes. When a team’s top two relievers are both unavailable due to recent overuse, the late-inning innings are handled by less effective arms with higher ERAs and lower strikeout rates. This creates a more offence-friendly environment in the seventh through ninth innings, which benefits team total overs. The effect is most pronounced in games projected to be close, where the better relievers would normally have been deployed in high-leverage situations.
